BIOMEDICAL STUDY SKILLS ENROLMENT - INFORMATION to NOTE:
The Biomedical Study Skills subject is an enabling subject for all other degree subjects and as such, should be undertaken within the first group of subjects in which a student enrols.
Failure to do so will inhibit subsequent enrolment into Second Year subjects, as Biomedical Study skills is a prerequisite for every subject at that year level for all SSNT degree courses.
Semester 1 Enrolment:
When undertaken in Semester 1 as part of the full-time program, Biomedical Study Skills is a co-requisite for any other subject taken in that semester. Part-time students should ideally take Biomedical Study Skills as one of the first subjects in which they enrol. Where this is not practicable, the student must enrol in the subject during the next semester in which it is offered.
Semester 2 Enrolment:
First year students who enrol at mid-year, and find that this subject is unavailable, are permitted to enrol in the first year subjects of their choice but must enrol in Biomedical Study Skills in Semester 1 of the following year.

FEE-HELP APPROVED FOR SSNT DIPLOMAS!
Southern School is pleased to announce that we are now approved to offer VET FEE-HELP
(currently sitting before Parliament in what is known as the ‘Disallowance Period’).
This means that eligible students enrolling into the following courses may now apply for a government loan to cover fees:
- Diploma of Remedial Massage Program (incl. Cert IV nested)
- Diploma of TCM Remedial Massage (An Mo Tui Na)
As per the degree-level FEE-HELP which has been available at SSNT for a number of years, applicants must be Australian citizens.
LOCKER HIRING RULES
All students who have rented a locker for the current year must remove their padlock by the end of exams.
Students who fail to do so will not be permitted to hire a locker for next year until the 2nd week of semester - a week later than other students.
All padlocks remaining in place after the due date will be broken and the contents placed in lost property.
A new allocation of lockers will be available from the start of first semester for a fee of $25 per year.
Limited numbers are available.
Are you thinking of changing to a different class time? If so,
YOU MUST SUBMIT A CLASS TRANSFER FORM.
Last semester, failure to do so resulted in some students being given an automatic ‘Fail’ for their subject due to the absence of a mark against their name on the roll.
Administration work hard to produce the correct result. Please do your part to ensure we are working with accurate data.
Important Note - To All Students
Bikes are NOT to be parked on the small Herb garden bed directly outside the clinic building. We are trying to establish a small garden outside the clinic for the enjoyment of clients and students. It is very difficult to actually get the plants to grow in this space without them being destroyed by bike tyres.
Bikes parked there will be removed.

Austudy Loadings
If you wish to calculate your Austudy Loading (minimum 75%) please click on the Course Fees/Austudy Loadings link below and then select the course and year you wish to look at.
Course Fees/Austudy Loadings
Are you claiming Austudy?
There are a few things you need to be aware of . . .
-
The loading for each subject has been calculated for you and can be accessed via southernschool.com under ‘Course Fees/Austudy Loading’. You should ensure that your selected subjects add up to at least 75% prior to enrolment.
-
Do not assume that you are meeting your Austudy requirements simply because a certain number of subjects was OK in a previous semester.
-
To be eligible to claim an Austudy allowance, you must be undertaking a minimum study loading of 75%. This is calculated on contact hours taken as a percentage of contact hours required for that semester.
-
Centrelink does an audit each semester on all students claiming Austudy. Recently, some students have been asked to pay back past benefits.
-
Since Austudy was absorbed by Centrelink, very few of their staff have a thorough understanding of the system. This can lead to mis-information. If you request advice from a Centrelink staff member regarding eligibility of your study load, try to get confirmation in writing, or at least take a note of the date, the office location and their name.
-
If you are need further advice regarding your Austudy requirements, please make an appointment with Reception to see Cheryl Richter.
ATTENTION EVENING STUDENTS:
If you do not have a 2010 Diary, you may pick one up from the Library desk once semester has commenced. Day students may continue to get their Diary from Reception.
Diaries will be avalaible to all enrolled students.
